Scott Goldstein – Employee Spotlight

Meet Scott Goldstein – Vice President of Strategic Partnerships, Drug Product Manufacturing at Argonaut

Can you describe your role at Argonaut?

No two days are ever quite the same! I lead our drug product business development team, which includes inside sales and external reps. My job is to grow our clinical and commercial manufacturing footprint—connecting with clients, developing proposals, supporting current programs, and overseeing how we present Argonaut at conferences and through marketing. Essentially, I help ensure our drug product business unit thrives by staying plugged into the market and aligned with what our clients need.

How does your work contribute to Argonaut’s mission of improving patient outcomes?

My team is often the first touchpoint for clients. We’re responsible for finding the right fit between what we offer and what our clients need—products that often become life-saving or life-changing therapies. When we bring in the right opportunities, I know our internal teams can deliver on time and with the highest quality. That integrity and follow-through ultimately ensures patients get the medications they need.

What challenges have you faced in your role—and how did you overcome them?

The biotech landscape has been volatile, especially over the last few years. Many early-stage companies lost funding, and we saw promising programs paused or canceled. Additionally, post-COVID, we’ve faced more competition as more manufacturing capacity entered the market. It’s made differentiation and client trust even more important—and I’m proud of how our team has risen to that challenge. We have been successful in bringing strong value to our partners.

How did you get started in biotech?

I began in operations—washing glassware! I had a biology degree from San Diego State and worked my way up to Associate Director of Operations at another CDMO. I loved working with clients, providing technical insight on challenging projects, escorting clients and regulators on facility tours and helping new companies navigate clinical development obstacles, and that’s when I realized I had a knack for connecting technical work with business development. Eventually, I transitioned into sales, moved my family to Boston to pursue it, and then landed here at Argonaut. It was a big risk—but it paid off.

What motivates you?

My family, first and foremost. And professionally? It’s the products we help deliver—especially in rare diseases. Some of the work we do supports “N of 1” programs, where one single patient receives a therapy that can literally change their life. The opportunity to be part of something that meaningful is powerful motivation.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

I’m a big outdoors person. I live on a lake in Kansas City with my wife and three kids. We spend a lot of time fishing, boating, and swimming. I grew up surfing and fishing in San Diego, so being on the water is my happy place. It’s peaceful, therapeutic—and different every time, much like working in sales.

How do you balance work and family life?

It’s not easy—especially with global clients and working virtually—but I build time into my calendar for my family. Whether its mornings getting the kids off to school or being there when they get home, I try to stay present. I also make sure to take real vacations and encourage my team to do the same. Recharging is critical.

“What we do at Argonaut truly matters. Whether it’s an innovative diagnostic, a rare disease therapy, or a vaccine—we’re delivering work that has real impact.” says Scott Goldstein

How would you describe the team culture at Argonaut?

We’re a close-knit, collaborative group. Even though we don’t all interact daily, we’re always there for each other—whether it’s a professional hurdle or a personal moment. That culture of trust, accountability, and shared mission makes this a special place to work.

Any advice for someone looking to start a career in biotech?

Be open. I started washing lab equipment, and that gave me a front-row seat to the science. Whether you’re drawn to quality, operations, chemistry, or sales, there’s a place for every skill set in biotech. Take initiative, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to try something new.

Is there someone who helped shape your career?

Absolutely. Chris Duffy, Argonaut GM and former VP Operations at my previous CMO, was a critical and supportive mentor in my early days—he taught me how to lead with integrity, take care of your clients and facility, and stand by your team. He continues to do that today.

Any concluding remarks?

What we do at Argonaut truly matters. Whether it’s an innovative diagnostic, a rare disease therapy, or a vaccine—we’re delivering work that has real impact. I think everyone here feels that and takes pride in being part of something bigger. It’s a powerful motivator knowing that our collective effort makes a difference.
